The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day has been celebrated annually on Sept. 30 in Canada since 2013. This day honours Residential School survivors and their families. The slogan “Every Child Matters” highlights the atrocities committed against Indigenous children by the Canadian government and remembers those who never returned home from residential schools.
